In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling fields, dwelt a young shepherd. His existence was essentially unadulterated, simple, and honest. His main role was to care for his flock of rams.
Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales across the single tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day upon day, watching over his wards imbued in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.
However, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. During one such occasion out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

One afternoon he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but found no beast.
The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This prank continued for a few days more. Yet, one noon, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few here of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of dishonesty.
The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is tough to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
